Benchmarking phase-in

Covered buildings will be required to benchmark for each reporting year, starting in 2024 and 2025 for specific building sizes, and all covered buildings over 25,000 square feet from 2026.

Covered Building size

First Benchmarking year

Large buildings:

>100,000 square feet

2024

(for 2023 calendar year data)

Medium buildings:

50,000 - 99,999 square feet

2025

(for 2024 calendar year data)

Small buildings:

25,000 - 49,999 square feet

2026

(for 2023 calendar year data)

Benchmarking Deadlines

2024 Benchmarking deadline: September 06, 2024

2025 Benchmarking deadline: June 30, 2025

2026 Benchmarking deadline: June 30, 2026

The yearly reporting deadline will be June 30th of each year, unless otherwise specified by the City of Madison.
